WEATHER

The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted Far Southwest Virginia in a SLIGHT RISK for severe weather for this afternoon. The rest of the state remains under a MARGINAL RISK. Thunderstorms are expected to develop around Noon across Southwest Virginia and slowly move across Central and Southeastern Virginia by mid to late afternoon.

Our VWN Damaging Wind Index gives portions of Southwest, Southern, and Southeastern a 5/10 or 50 percent chance within 30 miles of a location on the graphic. Storms that do develop will pack quite a punch with locally heavy rainfall, and gusty or damaging winds. Large hail is also another concern with any one of these storms. We cannot rule out an isolated tornado, as well.

1:00 PM Wednesday: Future Radar shows thunderstorms developing across Southern West Virginia and portions of Southwestern Virginia.

3:00 PM Wednesday: Widely scattered storms across Southwestern Virginia, with a possible line of thunderstorms trying to form along the US 360 corridor. With the daytime heating, any one of these storms will likely become severe.

5:00 PM Wednesday: Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across Hampton Roads and portions of Virginia’s Eastern Shore. A few isolated thunderstorms remain possible to the north and west.
