A dry cold front will move across the region this morning. A gusty north to northeast breeze will create an elevated fire threat this afternoon, mainly from the Virginia Piedmont points east to the coastline.
Expect sustained winds 15 to 20 MPH later this morning into this afternoon with gusts 25 to 30 MPH. The highest gusts will be right along the coast.
Minimum relative humidity values are expected to drop to around 30 percent. With dry conditions in place, any fires that develop have the potential to spread quickly.
It is recommended that you do not burn. If using an ignition source, such as machinery, matches, or lighters, please exercise extra caution. Also, be sure to properly discard all smoking materials, such as cigarettes. Any dry grasses and tree litter that ignites will have the potential to spread quickly.
