We saw scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms this afternoon across Central Virginia. Storms will come to an end by this evening with partly cloudy skies and remaining humid. Saturday will feature less storms (mainly across Southern Virginia and in the mountains,) with temperatures well up in the 90’s. The heat index will once again climb over 100 degrees.
A drought is building across parts of Southwestern Virginia, Northern Virginia and portions of the Eastern Shore. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows ‘abnormally dry’ conditions across the Greater Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia area, with ‘moderate drought’ conditions across portions of the Eastern Shore. With a chance for hit and miss thunderstorms, abnormally dry conditions will likely lead into a short-term drought.
